Working closely with Waldele Family Wines, I was responsible for designing and developing a website that reflects their charming brand and empowers them to sell online.
As a small wine-making business based in Sonoma, California, with roots in Black Forest, Germany, the client wanted a minimalist design highlighting their heritage and quality wines.
STRATEGY
gathering
I evaluated competitors in the wine industry to understand industry trends and best practices for CTA, age gates and email lead-capturing techniques as well as shipping and tax solutions.
brand Strategy
To begin, I conducted strategy sessions, delving deeper into their existing brand direction and where they wanted to go. The Waldele family, had a logo and wine labels. So we needed to uncover how this could play into a website and a communication strategy. Alongside branding, I held content strategy sessions to help them tell their story and provide unique ways to promote themselves to their audience.
Design
Visual Design
The customers felt strongly that their wines needed a minimalist design with notes of heritage and passion. Through many conversations and iterations, we selected a mild color scheme, an elegant typography and determined the best way to showcase their imagery.
Focused on how the design could tell their story through interactions that subtly hold the logo in place until the proper transition.
I opened each page by showcasing their charming imagery with close-ups and portrait shots; we implemented a black-and-white theme for the header images to emote a sense of heritage and timelessness to the audience.
Product design
I set up an online store that seamlessly integrates with Quickbooks Online and Mailchimp to streamline their business operations, enabling them to sell more wine online while effectively managing their inventory and customer information. This system makes it easy for customers to browse their products, purchase them, and receive the wine without any hassle.
Challenges
In addition to designing and developing the website, I also worked closely with the Waldele family to address their unique shipping requirements. The Wine makers’ private shipper had specific criteria in pricing structure and designated shipping zones that did not align with traditional shipping methods.
To tackle this challenge, I researched various solutions and shipping methods that would enable the Waldele family to meet the needs of their shipper while keeping their costs as low as possible. After careful analysis, we were able to implement a complex shipping solution that not only met their needs but also provided a seamless experience for their customers.
Final Thoughts
Overall, it was a fulfilling project, and I am proud to have contributed to Waldele Family Wines’ success by providing them with a well-crafted online platform that showcases their brand and enables them to reach more customers.
